3M™ 231 Masking Tape is a 7.6 mil crepe paper-backed tape with a rubber adhesive that bonds quickly to surfaces while resisting lifting and curling during application. The crepe backing conforms to curved and irregular surfaces without tearing, and the tape withstands temperatures up to 300°F for 30 minutes.
Designed for industrial painting, powder coating masking, spray finishing, and surface protection in manufacturing and fabrication environments, this tape removes cleanly from powder-coated and stainless steel surfaces without leaving adhesive residue — reducing rework time on production finishing lines. It also resists solvents and moisture during use.
